Can We Bring Mr T to Dork and Beans?

mr tI was thinking about what really brings people back to blogs to keep reading them over and over again, and then I promptly stopped. If I keep thinking about things for too long then it hurts, so I just let it go.

And then the answer came to me.

People keep coming back to blogs for the same reason they keep watching the same sitcom each week. The want to be entertained and the want to see what happens next in a story. For this reason I encourage people to create a series of posts (much like a sitcom) that keeps people coming back to see what is going to happen next.

My first series for Dork and Beans is:

Bringing Mr T. to Dork and Beans

When I first started blogging I stumbled upon a blog that was titled If I Blog It They Will Come. The goal of this blog was to try and get Kevin Costner to not only see the blog but also to send a picture of himself reading the blog on a computer. Which he ended up doing.

So I thought that I would like to give that concept a try, except aim for someone much cooler than Kevin Costner. That’s right: Mr T.

I am a huge fan of everything 80’s, and nothing says 80’s icon like Mr T. So in trying to think of the coolest 80’s icon I came up with Mr T. Plus, Mr T has done a lot of good with his celebrity so he must be an awesome guy .

While I was doing a little keyword research for this post I found out that many people are searching in Google phrases like:

  • is mr t still alive
  • mr t dead

This makes me think that we just have not seen enough of Mr T over the last few decades. Although he recently starred in an awesome World of Warcraft video I personally have not seen him that many television or film projects. So my goal for this series is to pose the question “Where is Mr T now?” and then try to get him to visit this blog and send us a photgraph of himself reading Dork and Beans.

I’m not sure how the heck I am going to start this venture, or if I Mr T would ever consider visiting this blog. So for now I am going to continue to post about my adventures in Bringing Mr T to Dork and Beans. If anyone has any suggestions it would be awesome to hear your ideas.

  1. I have 2 questions:

    1. Is Mr T computer literate enough to be online & reading a blog?
    2. Can he use another gold chain?

Instead of talking about how to do it, just make a post that is a direct open invitation to Mr T himself, and offer him a reward of a gold chain if he complies and comes forward and submits the desired photo of himself reading the blog. Make sure you purchase the chain (maybe throw in a custom made gold “dork & beans” logo charm too) and include a photo of it when you make the post. Set a firm deadline for claiming the “prize”. (maybe 1 year?)

If he comes forward, send him the chain…if he doesn’t, give it to your girlfriend as a gift and tell her it’s a “genuine” Mr T chain. I am sure she would be delighted and wear it with pride. ;-)

  2. app, a few things:

    1. I live off of projects, I need to created that cannot be completed easily, they have to go on and on and on. This Mr T thing will go on forever, or until I get bored of it.

    2. Mr T has given up gold chains..and I quote:
“No, T, you can never wear your gold again. It’s an insult to God”

I think Mr T is motivated by acts of kindness toward children…that should be my angle. I need to help children, and then Mr T will stop by.

In regard to your question Mr T is totally computer literate(or so he takes on jobs that pertain to computers). This should be the subject of my next post.

As a side note…am I the only person that posts on this blog??

  3. Fuckin jackass. You dont help children as an “angle” dipshit. You do it cuz you like to help children. Dont forget about all the work you did for United Way and all that dude. That might help if you need an “angle”.

    Hugs and kisses.

    The DUCK !!

    P.S.

    Live off THIS project.

  4. That doesnt look like it did when I typed it.

  5. The Duck is right…whatever you do, it has to be sincere or it won’t work.

As far as you being the only one that posts, it might be time to give your co-bloggers a weekly or monthly quota and kick them in the ass to get them moving.

With the number of co-bloggers you have, I think 1 post a week, to start with, isn’t too much to ask for. That is more than enough time for a beginning blogger to think of something and write a quality post.

Remind them that if they were doing a blog all by themselves they would have to post 2-3 times a week, at least.

You’ll be letting them off easy with a 1 post requirement. Just make sure they don’t all post on the same freaking day!
