That’s right, as far as I can recall Robert Downey Jr is a washed up drunken hack. Taking a quick look at his career on imdb.com I notice that he got off to a great start in the 80’s and slowly was becoming an unstoppable force, and just when his stardom was on a major rise, it was promptly was kicked in the junk and fell to the floor like a moldy bag of tangerines.
Of course now it seems that he is on the rise again. With the latest success of Iron Man and Tropic Thunder and the upcoming heart-wrenching , make you cry and feel uplifted film The Soloist is Robert Downey Jr. on a comeback?
I seriously hope not.
When I think of comebacks I am always brought back to 1994 when John Travolta played Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction. That was a deserved comeback. Johnny T is a respectable hardworking actor. Travolta deserved a comeback, Downey did not.
Even though I have a soft spot for the 1989 film “Chances Are,” I firmly believe that if Robert Downey Jr continues his journey to the top, or even one day gets an Oscar, this will signal the end of days.
Downey is a drunken junkie. Not a great actor.
Why should we take the time to praise our junkies? Maybe it’s time that I go to the apartment below mine and congratulate the junkie that lives there on creating successful meth lab. Maybe I should walk up to him and say: “Wow, I hear people banging on your window looking for drugs all night. Your more successful than a 7-11, keep up the good work!”
Robert Downey Jr is just like the guy who lives below me. A junkie. Let’s start treating him like a junkie. Don’t let him make a comeback.
Do your part and don’t go see any Robert Downey Jr movies, don’t rent any of his old movies, and if he ever wins an Oscar, throw a huge fit ( I know I will). Please help spread the news about the plague that is Robert Downey Jr and Stumble or Digg this post.

I have to disagree with you. Robert Downey Jr has performed well in movies such as Chaplin, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, or Iron Man. If you’re going to hate him for being a junkie, you might as well burn all your albums, movies, books, art, and anything else made by “creative people” because a fair amount of drug use went into the making of most of it.

@Ken: Thank you for naming some movies. I agree that a lot of drug use goes into the creative process. What makes me angry and makes we want to rip on RDJ is that celebs such as RDJ have a blatant disregard for the laws that most of us have to govern ourselves by. In 1998 RDJ was freed from prison to work on a movie. Would you be allowed out of prison so you could go to work?
I just hate looking a his smiley face mug shot that says: I’ll be out tomorrow.

I like Robert in a couple of movies.
Yes The Whites Mr Downey has lived a life of excess and lived some what out of the bounds of law, but he has brought his career back from so much bad publicity.
The thing that seperates him from other actors and your down stairs neighbor is that he got caught. As you might suspect other actors drink and do drugs and other nefarious things but haven’t got caught.
So maybe Robert jr. has had a bad run with drugs and other things, but if his latest career moves speak to his other activities maybe he has laid off the drugs and gotten strait, if so all the power to him.

You do know he hasn’t done drugs in years, right? He had an addiction and got over it. Yes, it was a rough time for him and he was in and out of jail for awhile, but he payed for the crimes he committed. And you know what? When he got out of jail/rehab the final time, barely anyone would hire him. He had to start over again in his career and prove himself a second time. He’s a good actor, deal.

Yes. People are allowed out of jail to go to work, it’s called a day pass. It’s actually quite common, it just so happens his job is acting.

i totally disagree with you. Robert Downey Jr. is an incredibly talented actor. so what if he did drugs back then? we all know he’s stayed clean for years now.. he’s paid his dues, why can’t you just give him a break?

You’re all certainly entitled to your opinions but I disagree with most of you since I’m a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr. I’ve not seen a film with him in it that I didn’t like, and yes, I’m obviously partial. But, if you’re hang-up on him is due to his getting out of jail to film, you should also be hating attorneys, judges, producers, celebrity status, and all celebrities etc as I can assure you that he (personally) had no impact on the decision to let him out or to push to have it done. He was both neither willing nor able to devise that plan/plot or push it through. It was likely his producer (or the funding partner on the film) that was in the pocket of a judge or someone else that let that happen. It’s like that with all celebrities. Preferential treatment will exist for them no matter what…and for eternity. That’s what this is really all about.
I hate it too that they don’t get the same treatment that we do…but I don’t hate them personally for it (except maybe Paris Hilton who produces nothing at all and does nothing for the GDP of the country…she is just living matter taking up space and entergy). If they get breaks…great for them. I wish we got those breaks but we don’t/won’t so fuck it.
I like RDJ because he has been through hell (self-induced or not) and seems to have made it through. I’m not sympathetic to lazy drug users but it does make for good drama and stories. I mean, the shit this guy did…absolutely hilarious! No harm done to anyone other than maybe scaring the shit out of the people whose bed he woke up in…but hey…no one was hurt and there was no intent to hurt or harm.
So…keep us fucking entertained is what I say…if you don’t like it…throw away your tv because everything and everyone on it gets the same preferential treatment.
Smile…enjoy life…and laugh as much as possible.

Robert Downey Jr is a great actor. Who gives two shits what he does in his private life. And to be quite frank I will go and see his movies, and I will fucking run round the street naked if he wins an oscar, thanks for your concern. We all known he could do a damn better job than you could do.

Alright children, it’s time to sit down and think really hard for a moment. This should be a challenge for all you Downey fans.
I know that RDJ has had a rough life and has made some films that have entertained you all. I understant that you want to defend him for that fact, because he is allegedly improving his life.
If I had written this post 10 years ago I can guarantee that all of you would be slagging him just as I am. My guess is that all of you are defending him because he is somewhat of a “Hollywood Golden Boy” right now.
So my hat is off to all of you Sheep that are defending a junkie just because he has “cleaned up” his life and made a few good movies.

Right. So if someone does drugs they instantly lose credibility or are no longer deserving of praise? Better not watch any movies, listen to any music, go to any plays, see any artwork, read any books… in fact, there might be people in all walks of life who do drugs. Oh noes! Shock horror! “Hi welcome to the coffee shop. What can I get you today?” “Hmm, I’d like an extra tall skinny….wait a minute, have you ever done drugs?”
If your pipes burst and you need a plumber are you going to interview them over the phone to get their narcotics history or do you want them to fix your leaks?
If you dismiss people for doing drugs then you are dismissing a vast portion of people. From little potheads to prozac popping housewives to crackwhores and yes, RDJ.

Serousily some guy is so bored he has to rant about a good actor people can change and he quit drugs. Hes changed i don’t get whats the big point so what if he got out of jail to work. first of all to get out of jail you all need to pay a fine and of course his fine was paid and for people complaining “oh its not fair he gets out of jail early” well fuck you becuase hes worked to beomce famous and now that he is he has a little bit of advantage so if you hate him dont becuase he makes a little mistake dosent mean nothing i bet a bunch of you have made mistakes and said whatever i dont care. Atleast he went to jail but theres kids getting drunk and stoned and yet police will catch them and they dont go to jail insted they are back in school or suspended for 5 days. What is your problem man? If he makes a good movie and starts to make a comeback then it’s deserved, and even if he is a junkie, as you put it, people will love his movies because they love his movies, not because they appreciate the fact that he’s a drug-riddled maniac who comes up on TV.

I for one am proud of Robert Downey Jr. The guy cleaned himself up, worked out and threw himself headlong back into his career. There are alot of stars who cannot say the same either because they’re still on drugs or are no longer alive. Wiki it, the deaths are alphabetized and over ten pages long. Bashing someone who is trying to better themselves is a little holier-than-thou don’t you think? Are you perfect, God not likely. Am I? Hell no. The man is probably working his ass off to do his job and stay clean and you’re just here to tear him down. Habit aside, he’s not the only actor that has tried getting clean. While you’re bashing Downey be sure to string up Johnny Depp too. Damn him for making Pirates! curse him for even considering Sweeney Todd, wtf was he thinking settling down and having kids! By the way I consider Downey to be a star that survived stardom as opposed I dunno, Chris Farley,Elvis Presley,Jim Hendrix,Kurt Cobain,Glen Quinn and numerous others. You my friend need a program.
